Working with the creative possibilities of music software that capturessounds like a freeze-frame, making sound movement stop, or go forwardsor backwards slowly, Doyle began composing the Passades in early 2002. Apassade is an equestrian term meaning to move backwards and forwardsover the same space. Seeing great possibilities of exploring this technique indetail, he continued to work on the Passades until there were three hours ofthem spread over three volumes, culminating in The Ninth Set in 2007.
