I got this because it didn't show or say in description that it had the SATA interface. When it arrived it was not as pictured but in reviewing the long description it says not as pictured because was a newer model and had SATA interface. Will not work with old drives because of the updated interface. Not worth returning and not usable for my application, more for the junk pile.

Use to connect an ATA hard drive to a PC via USB. Comes with power adapter. Appears to have everything you need for proper connection.

I purchased this and did not have the opportunity to use it right away, because we were moving. After I set my computer up and pulled the hard drive out of my old computer to transfer the contents of the drive, I plugged it into the device following the package directions, and it caught fire on my desk. I no longer had the packaging, some time elapsed between buying and using the item, and I decided it was not worth pursuing. Luckily, it did not fry my drive and I was able to just put the drive in a different computer case and ended up taking a few days to transfer my data to my new computer via thumb drives.I bought this because the hard drive was really old and I did not have a place to install it in my new computer, as the technology is different. Cables were as well made as OEM equipment. The IDE power cables were a little sloppy and I was not happy with them until I compared them to OEM, which were exactly the same, so one certainly can't complain about these as compared to industry norms. The little CD disk that came with did not seem to do anything and a written description or a read-me file might be helpful. As it was, the cabes were pretty much self explanitory and allowed checking out and setting up hard disk drives externally, since the computers in question had all the drivers previously installed and nothing more was needed from the CD. Original review was that this unit didn't work at all, need to amend that. The unit did what it was supposed to, but only after a friend pointed out that it was not receiving enough power, because one of the power adapter cables came loose, making it unusable. After fiddling with it and retrying, it worked fine. Still, I wasted two or three hours trying to make the little thing work due to weak manufacturing.

This product did exactly as advertised. I was able to recover all of my "lost" files from the harddrive out of my crashed desktop. This product even had it's own power source that others did not have. It was a plug and play self installing pleasure to use.I was considering buying a similar product from Best Buy, until I found out that I had not only more choices but didn't have to spend $69.95 for their product. The other down side of the BB was the 10% restock fee if the product wasn't right for my application.

I needed an easy, quick way to hook up an internal harddrive to my computer to recover some files. This fit the bill nicely. It's not pretty, and it has a couple of different cables that aren't all integrated into a one piece, slick design, but it plugged in, was immediately recognized by Windows XP and Vista, and worked flawlessly. What else should it have done?I didn't load any drivers or software, so if it came with any programs for backup or recovery (it had a disk), I didn't try them.

We hooked the HD from our crashed laptop up to our desktop and were able to access all the files from the laptop HD. I thought we had lost all the info until I found this cable. If you have Windows XP, Vista or 7, there is no need to download a driver to the desktop. Our laptop HD didn't need the power cable, power came from the USB cable. Great item!!
